Seminar Titled “What Are GMOs? The Effects of Genetic Modification in Agriculture” Held for High School Students
A seminar titled “What Are GMOs? The Effects of Genetic Modification in Agriculture” was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Gürkök Tan, faculty member at Çankırı Karatekin University’s Vocational School of Food and Agriculture, to students of Çankırı Agricultural High School.
During the seminar, students were introduced to the concept of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), their production processes, applications in agriculture, benefits, and potential risks. The session also covered GMO-related policies in Türkiye and around the world, consumer rights, and ethical debates—supported by real-world examples.
The aim of the event was to raise scientific awareness among students about GMOs and help them develop a multidimensional perspective on how genetic modification affects agricultural production. Thanks to active student participation, the seminar was conducted in an engaging, interactive format and drew great interest from attendees.
