Students graduating from the Game and Wildlife Program, which is a two-year program, can get the
title of “Wildlife Technician” and find a job all over Turkey.
What are the employment areas of graduate students?
• “Forest Conservation Officer” and “Wildlife Protection Officer” under the General
Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and the General Directorate of
Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
• Technician at the Ministry of Environment Urbanisation and Climate Change.
• Technician in peripheral units of municipalities.
• Furthermore, as a technician in the projects of environmental consultancy companies.
• Personnel who monitor wildlife in sustainable energy companies (such as HPS, WPP)
For example, between 2019-2020, the General Directorate of Forestry recruited 2700 Forest
Conservation Officers.
Students who graduate from this department can pass to which department with
vertical transfer?
They can transfer to Forest Engineering and Wildlife Ecology and Management departments of
Forestry Faculties.
The necessity of the Forestry Department in Çankırı
To date, in Çankırı,
• Vascular plants: 1264 species belonging to 92 families (200 species are endemic),
• Non-seeded plants: 475 species belonging to 93 families
• Invertebrates: 1420 species belonging to 190 families (16 species endemic)
• Fish: 5 species belonging to 3 families,
• Frogs: 8 species belonging to 4 families,
• Reptiles: 13 species belonging to 5 families,
• Birds: 146 species belonging to 28 families,
• Mammals: 46 species belonging to 18 families have been identified as a result of extensive
biodiversity and monitoring studies in which our staff also took part.
As it seen, there is a great need for a Forestry Department and graduates of this department in
this region, which is very rich in terms of biological diversity. Çankırı has rich biodiversity also
because the city located transition zone from forest to steppe.
Could you please tell us about your education method in the Forestry Department?
In theoretical courses, they acquire basic information about wildlife, forestry, and hunting. Our
practical lessons are held in the field. The nature of Çankırı allows to learn many species and
habitats in the studies carried out in the field. Our university provides all kinds of support in this
regard.
