Educational and Training Practices

Applied, Competency-Based Education Approach

As Çankırı Karatekin University Vocational School of Food and Agriculture, we adopt an applied and vocational competency-focused education model. The Field Crops and Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Programs under the Department of Plant and Animal Production, as well as the Hunting and Wildlife Program under the Department of Forestry, are supported with both theoretical and practical training.

Our programs offer students multifaceted learning opportunities including classroom-based theoretical instruction, laboratory practices, greenhouse-based cultivation, and open field applications. The on-campus training greenhouse is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in plant cultivation, care, and production techniques.

Our mandatory internship program allows students to engage with the sector at an early stage and offers a valuable opportunity for gaining field experience. Internships are conducted within the provincial organizations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, private sector companies, or other partner institutions affiliated with our university.

Through field courses, our students participate in technical excursions organized in collaboration with various institutions such as the Provincial and District Directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorates, and Forest Enterprise Directorates. These excursions provide students the opportunity to learn professional practices on-site and interact directly with experts.

Our school ranks among the top in the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Program each year, with a high number of successful projects aimed at fostering scientific thinking and research culture among students from an early age. With guidance from academic advisors, students conduct research projects that help them gain in-depth knowledge in their fields and develop skills such as problem solving, data collection and analysis, reporting, and teamwork — providing them with significant academic and professional experience before graduation.

With its wide range of tools, technical equipment, and practical training facilities, our school aims to enhance both the academic and vocational competencies of its students. In this way, our graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to contribute effectively to the agriculture, forestry, and wildlife sectors.
