GTMYO Students Examine Barley Sowing and Rice Processing on Site at the Kızılırmak Research and Application Area

Students of Çankırı Karatekin University’s Vocational School of Food and Agriculture (GTMYO) had the opportunity to observe applied agricultural processes on site during a technical field trip to the Kızılırmak Research and Application Area, as part of the courses Field Agriculture, Cereals, and Field Crops Cultivation.

During the visit, comprehensive information on the fundamental stages of barley cultivation was provided by Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Kuşvuran, the school director and course instructor. Students actively took part in barley sowing, learning hands-on techniques such as seed preparation, seed drill settings, seeding depth, row spacing, and optimal sowing time.

Afterwards, the group toured areas where paddy harvest had recently been completed, discussing field preparation, water management, maintenance practices, and harvesting techniques in rice production.

The trip continued with a visit to a rice mill in the Kızılırmak region, where students examined in detail how paddy is processed into table rice. Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Kuşvuran explained each step—pre-cleaning, dehusking, polishing, and grading—allowing students to closely observe both the production line and rice-processing technologies.

As the Vocational School of Food and Agriculture, we will continue to support on-site learning experiences with applied training activities in the period ahead.
